HOW TO SWADDLE YOUR INFANT?
Swaddling is a very easy, very simple technique. All it requires is a swaddling blanket of some sort – not too big, not too small – your baby, and a nice flat, safe surface to lay your child on.
Assemble those items and follow these simple instructions:
1.) Lay the blanket out flat in front of you. Imagine a compass. The north corner is the furthest away from you, at the “top” of the blanket, and the south corner closest to you, at the “bottom”.
2.) Fold the “north” corner down about 6 inches or 15 cms.
3.) Lay Baby on the blanket with his head on the fold you just made and his feet pointing “south”.
4.) Leave his legs drawn up, or bend them up into his belly for him.
5.) Fold the arms at the elbow, placing the hands under or near the chin.
6.) Fold the “east” corner over Baby to the “west”. Tuck it tightly around Baby’s body, including his arms, and under his back.
7.) Fold up the “south” corner up to Baby’s chin.
8.) Fold the “west” corner over Baby to the “east”. Again, tuck it tightly around and under Baby, as you did the other side.
9.) Make sure the swaddling isn’t so tight that it’s inhibiting circulation and breathing.
You have now successfully swaddled your baby! You’ve joined billions of parents over thousands of years in providing your child with a safe and secure snuggle. Swaddling made easy with our extra large bamboo swaddle blankets!
NOTE: Some babies become fussy or remain fussy if you bundle their arms up in the swaddling. For these tykes, try wrapping the swaddling blanket under their arms instead of over.
